I Just want to Celebrate...

Hi Everyone,

Wow, I can't believe we are done with this term. In some ways it flew by too quickly. I am very thankful that by the grace of God and Mrs. G., I actually survived this class. I still have all the swelling and some of the rash from the drug reaction, but have felt better today than I have in a month. These drug reactions are no joke. I wish I had been able to do a better job with everything the last couple of weeks. If nothing else has been gained, I value my health and life more than ever.

My son called today. He is at Full Sail in Winter Park, Florida studing to be a game designer. This school is very expensive and very intense. He has classes in 8 hour sessions and usually it is 2 subjects a month. Last night his truck was broken into and his $4,000.00 laptop was stolen and his backpack. Not only is it his computer but a whole years worth of work gone....zilch...zippo! I am so thankful it was his truck and not him. A month ago a young man was crossing the school parking lot when he was approached by a guy who wanted his laptop. The young man said no, and the guy shot him. This has happened twice with the shooting thing. I am so thankful my son was in his apartment asleep when these guys broke into his truck. Please keep my son in your prayers for protection and that he can re-create his work.
God bless you and yours.

week nine

Hi everyone1

This has been a nightmare with my drug allergies and medical probems for the past 3-4 weeks. Everytime I think I am back on track and doing better, something else bites me. I had a major reaction to lamictal and swelled up like a bullfrog, you know the no neck syndrome accompanied with a wild rash, breathing issues, and swelling of the face, lips, and tongue. When I checked this stuff out on the internet....people can die from the reaction, so I really freaked out. Nope, I am really not ready to go yet... The really bazarre part of this is there is only a .08% of people that are allergic to this stuff. Guess what? I fall into that minute percentage of weirdos.

Needless to say, I don't feel good about my paper at all. When I have felt good enough to work on it, I am having a really hard time focusing and not changing everything 5 times. If I make it through this class, it will be a bonified miracle.
Yes, I do believe!

I have enjoyed all you guys and the professor in this class and hope to meet you again some day. Thanks for all the encouragement and support along the way. God bless you and yours!

Wow! Week 8 is here

Hi Everyone!

These weeks are flying by so fast. I almost don't have time to catch my breath these days.

Today I helped give out commodities at the local Enrichment Center. It was my first time and I really enjoyed it. We gave food to 414 families in our county. It is really a worthwhile program and does a lot of good. The food comes from the Second Harvest Association and commodities from USDA. With jobs and income so scarce in this county(Randolph) we want more families to take advantage of this. More people sign up every month.

This weeks assignment is giving me an opportunity to "put on my thinking cap", it's been so long since I've had to think about verbs and such. I know this exercise will make a better paper in the end and probably make me a better writter. I don't know why I have such a block going on with English. I think my son inherited my dispensation of English as well.

Hope all of you are having a great week 8.

Degree Bound: Degree Bound

Hello all!!

Can you believe this is week 7 already. 10 weeks always sounds like such a long term, but it flies by so fast. I have to really work at it to keep up with each week's assignments to stay afloat.

I hope all of you are doing great with the paper. I have had some setbacks, but seem to be getting back on track this weekend.

I am looking forward to finishing this term, there has been so much going on from death and sickness to buying a vehicle and moving. Just a little to much on my plate these days, but I will make it.

You guys are great and much luck to you in all!!

unit 6 and flying

Hello! I have certainly had issues these last two weeks. 5 deaths, one suicide, and itching/nerve episode and now blood pressure problems. I am still blessed no matter what it looks like.

Now, I worked on my new outline, although I like the one I did last week much better. I seem to be having trouble getting all the information is one paragraph style. Is anyone else having a problem with this? I'm also still trying how to get this blog thing right. Here the term is almost over and I certainly have not mastered the basics of bloggin.

Unit 4

Research is a necessary evil for all good writing. Without it the writing would be nothing more than a lot of opinions, self experiences, and of course just plain bolona. The evil part is the time it take and the reading/filtering of information to be able to produce an academic style writing that is suitable for that class.
Citation is a must. You can not simply copy everythin you find and take credit for it. Everyone deserves their own credit for their own work and we, as college students must learn and love in text citation as well as resource citation to deliver a well thought out, well written paper for this and other classes.
Plagarisim is simple! DON'T DO IT!!!This is where it is a learning curve and opportunity for me. I write for a local newspaper as well and the last thing I want to happen is someone to call my editor and report me for plagarism. That would be just as embarressing as getting a slap on the wrist or expulsion from Kaplan.
Good luck to all with all of this!!

Hello all! This is a newspaper article that I wrote last week that I could not get to post. Hope you enjoy. Professor, Please tell me how I could have improved it.

Thanks, mj

Friday morning started out hot and balmy while we Commissioner Evans Simmons, Wayne White of International Consulting,LLC., , Commissioner David McMelton of Georgetown, Martha Hill of Enrichment Services Program, Marchell , Jo Chlders of the Department of Community Affairs, Americus, Ga., , , an interested baker, and myself waited anxiously for the van to arrive and transport us to the Baker’s Goods in Newton, Georgia. Once loaded, everyone was excited and expectant of the possibilities in store for all of us. The ride down was comfortable and informative as Buster Haddock drove and Wayne White filled us in on what work he had been doing to implement the Commercial Kitchen project with Evans Simmons. Mr. White, who has generously volunteered his time, had a laptop with an impressive power point presentation that explained the whole concept.
When we arrived at Baker’s Goods we were impressed with the size of the school that they had “resurrected” for their community project. We were greeted by David Miliner who is manager of the facility along with David Cowards who is president, and Sylvia Davis who is the Baker County FACs agent.
Mr. Miliner gave us an extensive overview of the whole Baker’s Kitchen project. Mr. Miliner stated “When I figured out that I was to feed people physically, mentally, and spiritually, everything became a whole lot easier.” Needless to say, he had everyone’s attention. He said that they were still in an infant stage and planned to grow by leaps and bounds. He also gave much due credit to Mrs. Shirley Sherrod, who was a driving force behind this concept. Mr. Milliner showed us around the facility so that we could see the many projects under one roof. Not only is Baker’s Goods a commercial kitchen; it houses the Head Start Program, Neighborhood Service Center, computer lab, banquet hall, a dance classroom, an arts and crafts room for the Boys and Girls Club, and much more. The concept leaves an awesome impression of what can be accomplished when agencies and the community work together. The kitchen is also a major driving force behind area local food movements, generating 40 new businesses and 100 jobs in Southwest Georgia, with an earning potential of more than ½ million dollars. You may purchase products made here via the EBHS website, www.eastbaker.net, or in regional convenience and grocery stores. The kitchen also published a cookbook and hosts the Free Spring Extravaganza in April. The East Baker Commercial Kitchen was born of a desire to preserve culture and sow a seed for the future harvest, the East Baker Historical Society and 21st Century Community Corporation, Inc. is based at the former East Baker Elementary School. 139 Roosevelt Ave., Newton, Georgia. The non- profit organization was incorporated in 2002 and is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors.
Mr. Miliner gave us an overview of how new entrepreneurs are trained to make their products in the commercial kitchen. There is a training program that meets on Monday nights from 5:00 – 8:00pm where ServSafe, product labeling procedures, and standard safety operating procedures for all kitchen equipment are taught. EBHS vows to carry out its mission: To provide services, opportunities, resources and facilities to low income residents of Baker and surrounding counties that will result in an improved quality of life.
Some of the new businesses include BBQ Sauce, Catering, Fresh Ground Meal, Cakes, Cookies, Pies, and other tasty treats. There is much room for culinary creativeness to stem from Randolph, Clay, Quitman, and Stewart Counties. With the economy and loss of jobs around the nation, it would be foolish and a waste for the above mentioned counties not to take advantage of this enormous opportunity. The advantages are numerous to take into consideration: working under one business license, being able to test market and market your products, the laboratory of the University of Georgia’s aid in establishing the required nutrition labels, the facility, the equipment, just to name a few. So sit back, pull out the old handed down cook books and let’s get Cooking.

Crazy week!!!

I bought a car this week. My purple penny is sick (97 purple mustang). I now have as 05 mitsubishi endeavor named White Winnie. I love her, she is so much fun to drive. I also went through 4 deaths with family friends this past week so it has been a mixed blessing, but a blessing all the same.

I wrote a blog last week and have no idea where it went. Does anyone no where dead man's land is for blogsvlle?

This week I chose PCOS to write my paper on. I wanted to find something that was not common information. This certainly wasn't. This malady affects women of child bearing years from 12 - 45. It is an obesity related disease that may affect fertility, egg development, gaining weight, skin acne, heart disease, diabetes, amoung others. It was quite interesting and full of good information.

49ersfan02: Welcome statement

49ersfan02: Welcome statement: "Hi class this is my first time ever writing a blog, but im open minded to trying new things. As you can tell I like football and my team is ..."

Hey! I love the 49ers too,but it's been awhile since I've seen very many of their games. Back in the day, they were my favorite Pro team and I think I bet on them during the superbowl. Lol

Degree Bound: Degree Bound

Degree Bound: Degree Bound: "This is my second attempt at this class and blog. I dropped the class last term due to plain old insecurity. I am looking forward to com..."

I am having difficulty learning this whole blog thing. That's the main reason I dropped this class last term. My techno ability is evidently zippo!! Ha Ha!! I am truly trying.

I write for the local newspaper and need this class desperately. I know newpaper articles are a little different from professional class writings. I have to admit I unknowingly plagerized some in a couple of articles just from not the proper paraphrasing and that is embarressing to me, now that I am learning the proper way of handling it. For a novice writer, I can't wait to hone my skills for a more professional look and read.

I know giving credit where credit is due is so important and the last thing I want to do is take credit for someone else's work.

I see the importance of proper research and the development process of a thesis statement. I discovered just because you have a great idea for a paper some topics just do not have enough research to back them up.

Genetically Altered Foods

In formulating my these this week, I was distraught to find a lack of information on my topic of choice. "Genetically enhanced foods are contributing to the early sexual developement and maturation of pre teens". I just have a gut feeling about this that all the growth hormones are not being eliminated by cooking and are being re-synthasized in our bodies. Especially young people. Something has to explain how an 8 year old child becomes pregnant.

Since that didn't work out I am working on a new thesis on the effects of meat foods that are pumped full of antibiotics and their effect on human health. Reseach has shown me that over 19 million pounds of antibiotics go into pigs, chickens, and beef that are headed for our dinner table. You say, fine, oh I beg to differ. The very same antibiotics going to the feed troughs of America are the very same that doctors are using to fight infections. Guess what? The doctors are not having any success treating certain infections with those same antibiotics. Have we outsmarted ourselves in the medical industry as well as economically? What do you think?

Degree Bound: Rainy Days and Stormy Thought

Today is a mixed blessing. We have rain. We needed it so badly. I had a major meltdown over trivial stuff. Why do I always let the junk pile up and then explode over something so simple. I'm tired and feel like I will never accomplish anything.

1st blog

Hi Everyone,

I am on a journey to complete an education to become a Registered Dietitian. It has been a challenge just finding schools that offer the degree. If you decide to do this program online the choice of schools becomes even smaller. When you consider sitting for the exam you must go to a CADE school to even qualify to take the test.
